Changing My Focus

I am officially back from parental leave and it was a wonderful time.  I had thought that I would have a lot more time to get some side projects done that I have had simmering for some time now.  However, that really didn't happen.  What can I say?  My daughter took a lot more of my time than I had planned.  I don't regret it in the least.

Shortly after I started my leave, I discovered that my group was undergoing a small re-organization (nothing to do with the recent layoffs at Microsoft, incidentally).  As part of this re-org, I have a new manager these days and a new role.  I am now the technical evangelist for Windows Azure as opposed to SQL Services.  As such, the content of this blog and my demos will obviously start to change to reflect my new role.

Part of me is sad to leave the SDS fold.  There is some great work happening there and I would have liked to see it through.  However, another part of me is happy to take on new challenges.  Windows Azure is certainly a key part of the overall Azure Services Platform and there is an incredible body of work happening in this area.

Incidentally, this reunites me with Steve Marx.  Steve and I used to work together on web evangelism (AJAX specifically) - he's an entertaining guy, so it should be fun to work with him again.
