MPX 220 ROM Update

Well, it appears that someone at Motorola has decided that it might actually be cheaper and more customer-friendly to issue an end-user installable ROM update for the MPX 220 rather than make customers send the phone to Motorola and wait an indeterminable time (sans phone) while the ROM update was installed for them and finally returned.

Happy upgrading. And no, it does not lock your phone when you upgrade (unlike mailing in your phone to Motorola).

Does this update work for AT&T branded phones?

Fagedaboudit!

Try loading it with 8000 contacts and the phone stops working well - and it doesn't manage memory to the SD card. It's great if you don't make much use of the PDA features, but then again if you don't need the PDA features then you don't need this phone.

Typical early adopter stuff plus really stupid problems like bad sound. Get serious, Moto.

Can someone email me or direct me to where I can find the upgrade. The upgrade I got is for only Cingular service. I want a generic one so that this phone can be used Internationally when I travel, esp. to sync up my phone with emails from my corporate email server without having to pay for internet service in US as well as abroad.

Did the upgrade allow you to sync your phone with exchange server with the USB Datacable?
